Thank you for the response. I have been through the windows updates. There was an update to .Net Framework 4.5.2 but I have no way of knowing if that might have caused the issue. Maybe I should remove that update and see if it helps. What do you think?

I had already checked the drivers. It is interesting that the drivers on the Roxio web site do not work on my PC. First, the 32 bit drivers will not install as I am running a 64 bit system (as expected). After installing the 64 bit drivers from the Roxio web site the device shows as a problem in the device manager (yellow icon w/!). It says the drivers were not found. I needed to remove those drivers and reinstall from the source DVD after which everything shows ok (but the device still does not communicate with any video capture software).

Lastly, method 3 is out of date as it applies to an older version and device. That said, the premise is the same. The driver is not an eMPIA Technology driver but a Corel one dated March 6, 2012, version 5.212.306.0. Also on my PC I have 2 devices showing Roxio Video Capture USB

Both show as working properly.

While trying to troubleshoot this issue I keep thinking about the protected memory error I briefly discussed in my original post and seem to believe there might be a memory conflict. I recall in older version of windows we could change IRQ's and memory locations. Can you do that in Windows 8.1 pro? Do you think that might help?

Thanks for the help

Hi, ChasTopkis

Thank you for posting back,

I am really sorry to know that the issue is not resolved.

Method 1:

Try disabling Windows Firewall and Security software temporarily and check if the issue persists.

Refer to the below link to turn off windows firewall:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/Windows-Firewall-from-start-to-finish

NOTE: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Method 2:

Try removing the updates that you installed recently from Installed updates.

Method 3:

To change the IRQ settings follow the below steps:

If you do have a conflict and need to change an IRQ setting:

a. Right click on the device in the list (see above), and then select properties.

b. Click the Resources tab.

c. Remove the tick from the Use automatic settings option.

d. Select a non-conflicting configuration from the pull down box.

e. Click OK.

Note: To change the settings you much login as an Administrator account.

Hope that helps!

For further assistance please post back.

Thank you.

Hello, I have tried Methods 1 and 2 with no success. I have a question regarding Method 3. There is no Resources Tab associated with the properties of the Roxio Video Capture USB Devices. The Resources Tabs are available with the devices under the Universal Serial Bus Controllers heading. I suspect the Roxio Device is directly related to one of the Host Controllers but how do I know which one? There doesn't seem to be anything where I can determine the relationship. By the way, none of these devices show any conflicts so maybe I am going down a empty hole. Thank you.

Thank you for the reply. I have been also working with Corel (the parent company) and have a remote session scheduled. Since this device works on my Toshiba laptop, it leads me to believe it's not the device itself but something else. I will provide an update after my session with Corel.

I spent a couple hours with Corel support. Unfortunately they could not find the problem. One thing of interest though. They asked me to try a different USB port. When I did we received a .Net Framework error indicating there was a memory conflict. I mentioned this in my first post. Nevertheless, we copied the details and Corel is sending it to their engineering people for review.
